WINGS AROUND THE WORLD: The Exhilarating Story of one Woman's Epic Flight from the North Pole to Antarctica

Polly Vacher wanted to become the first pilot to complete a solo flight around the world via both Poles in a single-engine aircraft. Her 60,000 mile voyage would take her to every continent. She prepared meticulously for two years and had garnered multifarious sponsors.
However, as she took off, flanked by a Hurricane and a Spitfire, and waved off by her family and the Prince of Wales, she suddenly felt so alone. She had begun a remarkable expedition that would gain her three world records, but would also see her encounter extremes of weather and emotion, kindness, obstruction and also a little political intrigue.

Somewhere Over North Pole

Somewhere Over North Pole

Shot from the window of EK 225 that flies between Dubai and San Francisco. This plane followed a flight patch that did surprise me when it took over from Dubai. I was expecting it to fly towards Europe then over London across the atlantic and into America , instead of that it flew over Russia east bound and then over the North Pole , Alaska and US west coast . One more thing that I was fascinated was 15 hours of flight and all in Day due to the flying over north Pole in Summer.

Flying to North Pole

Flying to North Pole

We had to refuel at 85 degrees north (the max range of the plane...the point of no return). We had set out several drums of fuel the day before...and we had some extra fuel drums in the cabin too =)

The General And Me

The General And Me is the story about me, an enlisted member of the USAF, an airplane, and a three star general. In 1954, I was sent overseas to the Northeast Air Command (NEAC), where I was assigned to the ground crew of the commanding general’s aircraft, a VC-54E serial number 44-9076. An assignment that lasted until the command was deactivated in 1957.
The Northeast Air Command consisted of six bases that were located in Newfoundland, Labrador and Greenland, along with a few Danish settlements, Mastervick and Nord. The NEAC bases were visited monthly by the NEAC commander.
When the VC-54E was airborne, the general was always in the pilot’s seat. The General And Me is a collection of witnessed accounts of flying with the general in every situation that can be imagined.
There were some thoughtless behavior and substandard duties performed by subordinates that came to the general’s attention. While the reader will find them humorous, they were mentally terrifying for the individual involved. The general’s three star rank and well-known reputation struck fear and intimidation into the hearts of the weak and strong alike.
My memories of flying with the general will be with me as long as I live.
